Stefan Lombardi’s review published on Letterboxd:
The films start off on the right foot, with Carmac talking about Unreal Tournament and the early days off eSports.
It then devolves into what i would call North American League Of Legends propaganda. Rather then show the global nature of eSports it decides to turn into Rocky 4, we are meant to want Cloud9 to win.
It also fails to show the history of eSports, we get about 30 seconds of Brood War and South Korea. The game and place that modern eSports has built itself around and its put in as a side note. We get even less of Counter Strike and Starcraft 2.
As someone who watches ESL regularly it was interesting to see how the machine works and Carmac is as likeable as ever. But like Free To Play is to Dota 2, this is a film about how cool League of Legends is and not the birth and rise of eSports. I hope the next eSports documentary gets it right.
