This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Make sure to hit the deli to get a snack for the movie. Great action sequences, good technical work, the Andes steal the show. The movie feels it’s half an hour longer than it should be, and the dramatic beats of this unbelievable true story seem slightly tear jearkery. But then again this is coming from a guy that never survived a plane crash and almost two months and a half in extreme conditions.

Warning: don’t watch after taking San Pedro. Just kidding, do what you want. Extra half star because of my guy crush MC. The movie starts off interestingly with the north american actors playing very funny roles as north american clichés, but then loses some steam in the second act. (Apparently) Simple and cheap movie that works and delivers what it aims at, while displaying the beautiful north Chilean landscape along the ride.

What a story! There’s hardly time to gasp for air after passing the 20 minute mark, with some amazing performances to help deliver the blows. If only it wasn’t shot on a 1863 Motorola VHS camera, I’d probably give it full marks. But then again, it gives the rawness and helps to bring us even closer to this celebration.

Everything looks great in paper, visuals are stunning, technically impressive, myths and legend wrapped in a historical context, but then something happens and meh. Too much stuff to cram into just one movie?
