Patrick Burton’s review published on Letterboxd:
It would be so easy for me to just give this 5 stars- legendary director, legendary composer, and legendary actors working on a crime epic. But to tell the truth, I didn't love it. There is a lot to appreciate and I was in awe at the sheer scale of the production. It's just not that emotionally engaging.
My favourite section had to be when the gang were youngsters. Aside from being the most visually spectacular time period, it had the most personality and heart. The representation of women was definitely problematic. They are all either prostitutes, nurses or there to be raped.
Overall, I can see why loads of people love this but I found it to drag in many places and lacked soulfulness and excitement.
