This film means so, so much to me.
I also was once a boy in Mexico City, middle class, with a helper/maid, it was normal in Mexico, family friends had maids, everyone did. Not only did many not appreciate the strong, kind hearted workers they had to help them, but they also treated them with no respect. Roma to me is a tale for all those in Mexico City who are fortunate, please be kind.
Roma is a huge throwback…
This was absolutely insane. It’s written like a play, dialogue packed and stand-offish scenes. I really really loved this movie, and I think Charlie Kaufman is probably one of the best filmmakers we have today, he just doesn’t miss.
As far as the film, I’m still processing it. I’m definitely going to need to re watch this, but wow - this film was jam-packed with thought provoking - existential and mind blowingly unique dialogue. I loved how weird this made me feel, also the ice cream scene is terrifying.
