Patrick Pryor’s review published on Letterboxd:
“You can’t get an address without an address. You can’t get a job without a job. It’s all rigged.”
It’s a fucking nightmare to live in poverty in America. The entire capitalist system is designed to keep kicking you down until you’re left with nothing. When you have to decide between eating or fixing a car, when you have to pay a fine or stay in jail, when you have to decide between going to the hospital or patching up yourself, when you have to sleep in your car because you can’t afford rent, when people above your class show zero empathy ‘cause you’re just dumb and lazy and deserve your lot in life, something is seriously broken and wrong. Reichardt uses long assured takes to let reality sink until it grinds down hard. An hour in in this space is physically exhausting. A day could wipe you out cold.
