In which the raw naivete of Matthew Lillard and David Arquette's performances do amazing work to counter-act the occasionally overly slick and self-congratulatory tone.
Tobe Hooper said that Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a comedy about Leatherface having the worst day of his life. Every kick to the face, every vase and bottle of beer smashed over the head of Ghostface feels like it comes from a black comic version of this movie about two dopes who discover being a serial killer is a lot more hard work than they thought. In that aspect, the kitchen scene is both the scariest and funniest part of the movie, usually at the same time. A+
