A Matter of Life and Death ★★★★

This is such a peculiar film in so many ways. But I love how edgy it is for the time, and for the questions it raises. Some of the concepts are a little bit over-egged - particularly the nationalist debate, but this is very much a film of its time so I can't be too surprised.

There are some great performances, and the use of some pretty impressive technical developments for the time are helpful and interesting rather than pure gimmicks.
