The Witch

The Witch ★★★½

Poster Challenge #6 - November 2018

Task 20. A poster featuring a wild animal

Believability is commonly taken for granted, especially in genres like horror, because people don't recognize its importance to the viewing experience. I am glad that "The Witch" did not make this mistake. If, on one hand, the movie has few truly "horror" moments, the tension is present throughout the film and we are constantly unconfortable because the characters and situations feel too real. The small cast here is amazing and so is the dialogue, proposing discussions on religion, family and isolation. It has some issues though, the most eminent being that it fails to deliver a satisfatory conclusion for all the questions it raises. Overall, it's still a very good film.
