Synecdoche, New York ★★★

It's so postmodern and in-your-face about it that it can be a bit too aggressive (like a college freshman claiming he finally understood the world), but there's much to like here, from Hoffman's bravura performance through the delicious bits of dark humour sprinkled throughout to the absolutely phenomenal scenography. The soundtrack is nice too. But beware - this is something rather depressing.
