mulholland drive takes surrealism to a whole new level
love how immersive this felt with the way lynch distorts your sense of reality. for almost the entire movie, we follow characters rita and betty as they try to solve the mystery of rita’s true identity. It isn’t until the last half hour, you find out the story you’ve become so invested in is actually a dream 😱. Watching this a second time I now notice how sequences that once seemed abrupt, lacked explanation, or felt out of place, now make sense in how they very well reflect the sporadicalness of dreams.
it’s been years since i last watched this and i forgot how brilliant this movie is. There are so many layers and details to unpack. I will definitely rewatch this!
