Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★½

A movie with both Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt? How could I not enjoy this? This movie did not disappoint. The comedy, the 60s setting, the acting, it was all top-notch. However, for most of the movie, or at least up until it's 3rd act, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood feels purposeless. It drags for the better part of the movie, especially in the 2nd act, and it doesn't seem to go anywhere. The plot and narrative is pretty weak and there's are some scenes with certain characters who I frankly don't think they offer much to the movie and could have been cut with little impact to the film. There are some really great scenes scattered throughout to still make the movie enjoyable and keep me heavily invested despite the lack of direction. The movie is also surprisingly extremely funny which kept me engaged throughout the movie. Not to mention, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt is a great joy to watch in this movie (and probably every movie they're in) as well and I absolutely loved every scene with them in it.

The movie really kicks into gear in its brilliant third act, where I found myself holding my breath suspensefully for a lot of the final act. Everything finally started moving and it had the audience on the edge of their seats (me included) for the last 20 minutes. However, even after the movie ended, I still struggled to think of the point of the movie. The movie focused more on the lives of the characters instead of the plot of the movie, which admittedly isn't as bad as it sounds. If it weren't for the interesting characters and their engaging lives, this movie could have easily been one where I could have taken a nap, but instead it ended up being one of my favorite movies of this year.

I would totally watch this movie again just to see Leonardo and Brad Pitt again
