Per Enström’s review published on Letterboxd:
5min, the first words are spoken; 10min, the first actual conversation is had; 55min, something actually happens; 1h27min, the movie ends.
The Assistant is a slow movie about a day in the life of the overworked, underappreciated assistant (Julia Garner) to a film studio president, stuck on a tiny raft in the middle of a sea of misogyny.
Nothing really happens. It's just a glimpse into the horrible world that is the film industry. It has the feel of a short film, just a bit longer. Nothing's really bad, and if you like this kind of slice-of-life movie it's probably great.
