    Blå måndag

I only saw this movie (the title translates into “Blue Monday”) because I had heard that it is supposed to be very, very bad and wanted to find out if I would agree with that. Turns out I do. I really do agree.

I can certainly understand why this movie is by many considered to be one of the worst Swedish movies ever made. For some reason I am not a big fan of Swedish movies in general, and "Blå…

  • Blood Work

    Blood Work

Yesterday I watched the movie "Blood Work" with Clint Eastwood. The movie had a good plot and was better than I expected; I rate it above average.

  • Finding Forrester

    Finding Forrester

I recently saw "Finding Forrester", and I really enjoyed it. I like to watch movies of this kind from time to time; it reminded me of "Pay It Forward", another very good movie. "Finding Forrester" is, with its great story and great acting, in my opinion worth the time it takes to see the movie.

  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Yesterday I saw "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". It is a great movie, but it is quite dark and the colors and to some extent the environment are different from the two previous movies. Also, I think the movie is too short. Even though nothing major that I remember from the book is missing, the movie seems a bit rushed. "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" is, nevertheless, a movie worth seeing.

    I wonder if there have…

  • The Day After Tomorrow

    The Day After Tomorrow

Yesterday I saw "The Day After Tomorrow". It is a fairly good movie, and the special effects are great. The story and characters are not very interesting, but since the movie is—at least in my opinion—primarily about the special effects, that is not a major issue. I usually enjoy movies about natural disasters because they tend to contain impressive scenes, and that was the main reason why I wanted to see "The Day After Tomorrow". What "The Day After Tomorrow" lacks in story and character development, it makes up for in special effects.

  • Spider-Man 2

    Spider-Man 2

I saw "Spider-Man 2" Thursday. Here in Sweden the premiere was on July 7, so I saw the movie the day after the premiere. This was a must-see movie for me since Spider-Man is my favorite superhero.

"Spider-Man" is a great movie, so I had quite big expectations on the sequel. Fortunately, those expectations were met. "Spider-Man 2" is even better than the first movie, following the same style. It has a near-perfect mixture of action, humor, and character development.…

  • I, Robot

    I, Robot

Yesterday I saw "I, Robot". It is a great science fiction movie and I enjoyed seeing it. "I, Robot" is a movie that succeeds in combining action with brains without putting too much emphasis on either. Since I am interested in philosophy I especially liked that issues concerning robots having emotions, being genuinely conscious, etc., were part of the story, although they were not dealt with extensively.

The story was pretty much what I had expected, and the acting was…

  • American Beauty

    American Beauty

About a week ago I saw "American Beauty". I wasn’t really expecting too much of this movie, but since it had received very high marks in reviews I still wanted to see it.

The movie completely surprised me. It is an absolutely fabulous and entertaining movie with a great story and an excellent cast, especially Kevin Spacey whose acting I started to appreciate after I saw "Pay It Forward". The great character development and music contribute to the greatness of…

  • The Rock

    The Rock

This is one of the best action movies I have ever seen! Even though the movie is from 1996, I saw it for the first time a couple of days ago, but this movie has not deteriorated with age and is still an excellent movie.

"The Rock" was certainly better than I had expected. Great cast (especially Sean Connery), great action, some humor, and awesome music ensure that this is a highly enjoyable movie. I would not hesitate to recommend…

  • Black Hawk Down

    Black Hawk Down

This afternoon I saw "Black Hawk Down". It was a VCR recording from a while back when the movie was broadcast on TV. I may see the DVD edition of this movie sometime for a much better sound experience; I don’t doubt watching this movie with surround sound will greatly enhance the experience of the movie as a whole.

I usually do not watch war movies, but I have to say that "Black Hawk Down" was definitely one of the…

  • Frequency

Yesterday I watched the movie "Frequency" on DVD. As soon as the movie ended, I found myself wondering why I hadn’t heard anything about it before. "Frequency" is a really great movie! It is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The story is surprisingly good considering the complicated phenomenon of communication between the present and the past (or between the present and the future, depending on one’s point of view). If you enjoy movies that foster thinking, I can highly recommend watching "Frequency".

  • Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I had been looking forward to seeing this movie for a long time, ever since I first read about it, in fact. The DVD was released on February 16 in Sweden. I had preordered it and received it that day, but I didn’t have time to watch the movie until yesterday.

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" is a really great movie based on an interesting idea: erasing specific memories that one doesn’t want to keep. The movie is intelligent…
