Little Woods ★★★½

imagine how annoyed i was having checked uk release date news for little woods for months and months on end, only to find out yesterday that they'd changed the name to crossing the line and dumped it on video-on-demand here back in april.

anyway, although the promise of "from the team behind oscar winning films la la land and call me by your name" was setting it up for disappointment, little woods (because that new title is ridiculously bland) is impressively-performed by its two well-matched leads, with real promise shown by nia dacosta in her directorial debut. cut from the same cloth as winter's bone, it's sad that it's been so shafted as it has been because it deserved to find an audience
