Mike Aparicio’s review published on Letterboxd:
I love Spike but this is among my least favorite of his films. As painfully unsubtle as it is long, Da 5 Bloods tries to cram too many characters and too many ideas into it's 2.5 hour runtime. The core characters are well cast in modern day scenes but inexplicably play their younger selves in flashbacks to the Vietnam War, sans any kind of makeup or de-aging effects. It's incredibly jarring to see a bunch of 60-year-old men playing shoot-em-up along side young Chadwick Boseman. Also there are some overt references to Apocalypse Now that are downright comical in how obvious they are. I wanted to like this but it gave me so many reasons not to.
