Peter Gavaris’s review published on Letterboxd:
Glasgow Film Festival 2018 - #4
Well, I definitely didn't expect to see two great films in one day, but I'm not going to complain. This latest from Andrew Haigh is an enthralling work of social realism that tells a straightforward dramatic story exceedingly well. Now, I haven't read any other reviews of this film so far, and I assume it'll receive due critical praise once it releases wide. Still, I hope that people/critics will refrain from labeling this misery porn. Like, sure, the story being told is a sad one, and the trauma in Lean on Pete often compounds into tragedy, but Haigh wisely avoids any sort of trite sentimentality. I kinda loved this.
