  The Fly 1958

  Rolling into the movies of The Fly for an upcoming episode of Sitting in the Dark. I’d never seen this one, but boy, the reveal hit home; that voice is how my mom used to ask for help when I was a kid. She loved the movie and knew I hated the voice… kind of a perfect troll. Anyhow, much better than I’d expected, with a horrific press at the end. Fun start with a bit of camp, a bit of sci-fi, and gross creature.

  I don’t have much of a review in me for this movie. It’s mostly nonsense and a stream-of-consciousness parade in support of the power of family, punctuated by some cars. It’s too long, but only made watchable thanks to Jason Momoa, who is wonderful.

  I’m late to the game on this film but just to mark the day, I have now watched it. I sat as close to my television as I could stand, not because I was trying to prove any sort of point, but because I felt like the movie was pulling me into it, and I could not resist that pull.

  Man 15 year old me would’ve loved this movie. Sometimes I miss that kid. Movies are hard.

  I think the biggest challenge that I had watching this thing is that it doesn’t feel like it was made for me. I got the sense that our principal characters made this movie for themselves, and the parade of cameo appearances of their dear friends, and that’s wonderful for them. They made a playground of a movie for themselves to jump around and…
