I've been asked a few times to make a ranked list of Hisayasu Satô films, so, finally, here it is!

It was really hard to place these in a ranking. After the first two films, it really is quite a blur of brilliant efforts. Satô is (perhaps "was" is more appropriate) so consistent. Before the 21st century kicked in, there were very few stumbles in his career.

I'm yet to see a stack of his films. Some it appears have never been released outside pink theatres. I'm working on tracking down copies, especially while I live in Japan. If you have any leads on films I'm missing, please let me know!
