Alicia Vikander had an absolutely enormous breakout year in 2015 with not only Ex Machina, but with The Danish Girl and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. She even won an Oscar for TDG, though rightfully for Ex Machina in our hearts. Nevertheless, Alex Garland’s debut was a twisty and methodical journey that, although can never be matched from its initial shock value, is always intriguing on rewatch, and contains some scarily realistic (but technologically marvelous) visuals.
