My gf and I watch every sort of horror movie together. The strongest cringe reaction we’ve ever had is to Barry eating the hot dog wrong. She had to cover her eyes. Absolutely depraved.

I found the memory angle most interesting. We all have half-remembered incidents from decades ago that we’re not sure really happened the way we now think they did, or at all. By going back and tracking one memory down in detail, this dude shows how messy and imperfect memory—and life outside societal boundaries—can be.

Ok sure, do the whole thing where the filmmaking tries to make you feel like the people in the documentary feel, with trippy visuals and shit. But can you leave time to tell us what actually happened? For a movie about a depressed guy getting high to feel slightly better, there is very little information about what he actually experienced or how his illness changed. If I could take a year off work to do drugs and travel and pet dogs I’d feel better too, but I’m not sure why anyone would film it.

People hate this movie so much! Maybe my lowered expectations helped me enjoy it. It’s not some deep artistic statement, but as a cheesy exploitative horror(ish) movie that really makes you hate the cartoony bad guys, I thought it was a good time. And maybe it hits different in 2021, just after white supremacist cosplayers actually stormed The Capitol. I dunno, not my place to comment on the deeper stuff, but as a trashy movie I was into it.
