  Knock at the Cabin 2023

  Really liked this as a simple “wouldn’t this be a crazy situation? What would you do?” type of movie. Probably less enjoyable if you’re looking for deeper themes or waiting for a Shyamalan plot twist. I love Paul Tremblay’s writing (though I didn’t read this one), but I also liked Old, so you know, my opinions are questionable.

  This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

  Great satire. Realistic without any obvious “the comet is X and this character is Y” bluntness. That also means it avoids taking a hard stance in identifying anyone who’s responsible for the mess of the real modern world, or any possible solutions, but I suppose the mean-spirited “everything and everyone sucks, and there is nothing we can do about it” is its own stance, so it’s not totally spineless. Really enjoyed cringing at this movie.

  Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022

  As as Serious Horror Guy I could point out that this doesn’t follow the spirit of the original, and tacks on muddy social commentary that goes nowhere.

  As a person who actually enjoys horror movies, this was a fun bit of gory dumbness with a guy who kinda resembles Leatherface.
