Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now with a dash of 2001: A space odyssey makes Embrace of the Serpent, a uniquely beautiful masterpiece.
Another venture into the murky depths of suburban American. Little Children is part of a family of films, American Beauty and Blue Velvet being part of this family. Todd Field (Nick Nightingale from Eyes Wide Shut - MIND BLOWN) directs what is only his second feature with such meticulous patience that it could be mistaken for his tenth. Field superbly draws the line between humor and drama, sidestepping between the two with ease and grace. The characters are all a fraction or two off of normality, each inhabits a personality that seems stretched and intensified towards their less obvious qualities; both positive and negative.
