Sigh. I went in with high expectations and ended up disappointed. The main reason is I didn't care for Celia Johnson's character much. She was despondent and dull much of the time. I didn't understand the appeal. I did like Trevor Howard, though.
I was thrown off by a recurring theme of music that sounded like an instrumental version of the song, "All By Myself" by Eric Carmen. (I had to laugh when I heard it while Johnson was sitting alone on a bench!) I was confused as that song came out in 1975. Apparently, it was based on the second movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.2. I had no idea.
