The Picture of Dorian Gray ★★★★

A really blank, almost robotic performance by Hurd Hartfield had a seductive amorality, made queerer by the restrictions of the Hayes code--the pulp turn of the revelation seemed a little too literal, but it made the respectability of the rest of the work to a kind of lurid (literal) technicolour quality, making the repressed drawing room quality of the rest of the work starker.
