Requiem for a Dream: NYC homeless edition.
Heaven Knows What is a movie based off Arielle Holmes' book, in which she narrates a dark period of her life; when she was homeless and junkie.
What could be (it begins this way) an extremely depressing and bleak film turns out to be slightly heartwarming, as Harley's (Arielle) relationship with a friend (Mike) develops and gains certain charm and likability.
Apart from a long shot during the opening credits, there's nothing particularly special about the way Heaven Knows What was shot, but the soundtrack is fantastic. Chaotic and noisy electronic music (reminds of It Follows, though more fast-paced) fits the stumbling and precarious lifestyle of Harley pretty well.
