  • Girl

The way the camera lingers on her reflection in the mirror like she’s the only one in the room. The idea of people looking at her and not understanding her is palpable in every scene. The movie seems to limit the amount of bullying that it shows as a way of magnifying the emotion and ideas behind one’s own journey to self hood and identity.

  • Predator

Being a long time Alien fan and having just watched The Thing, it feels hard to give Predator the credit it deserves. The persistent scenes of gunshots were rather annoying but astute to the feeling of frantic fear- allowing the audience to inhabit the prey behavior of the characters. What sets it apart I suppose, is it’s humor and it’s devotion to the survival scary movie formula. By humor I mean over the top dialogue and cliches. Overall a fun watch though, and maybe worth seeing if only for some of the final scenes.

  • Nope

This might be the first time I watched a horror movie without looking away. I COULDN'T look away. The way that imagery and symbolism plays a role makes the whole film fascinating to look at. I thought Peele was a genius after I watched Get Out, but this is a new level. In the way that Get Out forced audiences to look at their own biases and behaviors, Nope similarly asks you to question how your goals and fears affect…

  • Colossal

    Surprisingly good and original story.
