My heart is so so full. Took me days to bring myself to write a review because I felt like I couldn't do the film justice. My reviews are usually ironic one-liners, but for this one I wanted to be sincere.
What a stunning and well-crafted piece. So immersive, so tragic, so beautiful. Soul-crushing despair, tentative hope. Watching Ruben slowly learn to be okay with who he is, the stops and starts, the yearning, the way he stumbles and falls and gets right back on his feet. It's so real. Absolutely masterful. The secrets of the universe manifest themselves in the way the light reflects in Riz Ahmed's eyes and I am grateful to look on. A glimpse of the divine.
