Matt Winfield’s review published on Letterboxd:
Maniac Cop is the first of only two re-watches I have planned for Hooptober. I'm glad I added this as I liked this a lot more on the second viewing.
This movie does a great job of keeping the action moving. There was no point where I find myself bored or getting distracted. Tom Atkins steals the show, just like every movie he is in. There is just something great about every film he stars in. When I think of iconic 80's horror movie characters, he's one of the first people that pop to mind. He is one of the few people that can upstage Bruce Campbell in a horror flick. It's a shame that he has to leave so soon. At least he goes out with a bang (well, a fall then a bang in this case).
While i'm glad I re-visited Maniac Cop, I don't think I'll be watching the trilogy again anytime soon. Maybe my memory is wrong but I remember the third movie being a real stinker. I think stopping here is for the best.
