While the atmosphere and lighting certainly fill me with a strange combination of melancholic hopefulness, and bittersweet longing, The Double Life of Veronqiue really didn’t have that much of an impact on me. While I was relatively engaged in the first 40 or so minutes, the rest of the film lost my interest and I think any chance of having a profound cathartic experience quickly vanished as I got more and more dissatisfied with the story. I do plan on rewatching this, and I do think that’ll help but as of right now I’m lukewarm on it.
