Much like its subject, Citizen Ashe refrains from melodrama, telling its narrative with poise and intelligence. The documentary falters as a tribute to the professional athlete, for it is overly clinical in its delivery, though it does serve as a neat introduction to those who are unfamiliar with Arthur Ashe's accomplishments.
