basically a dumber (better) version of fincher

solid cold war noir, not up to fuller's best work but eh still nice shit

a kind of weird juncture between outsider art and experimental cinema, where i find myself longing more for the former than the latter. surprising how similar the new film is to this one - the empty sets and opaque narratives have a good deal of overlap, but i have to echo most people on here and say that this is decidedly minor

one of the most genuinely crazy plots ever and cronenberg thankfully never goes too far off the deep end narratively here which i think would have doomed something like this. fantastic stuff!! weird and alien and kinky and oddly topical (microplastic consumption, fantasizing about post-climate change worlds, etc.) plus those costumes and sets are to die for. i'm usually somewhat reserved about cronenberg, though this is really special and very much one of the best of his films that i've seen.

these dudes will go from saying the most based incisive autistic shit in the world and then follow it up with the most insane incel bullshit immediately after. what a world!! i love the movies!!

had a realization while watching this that matrix 2 should have been called resurrections, matrix 3 should have been called reloaded, and matrix 4 should have been called revolutions. oh well. lovely stuff, some of the best setpieces out there for sure

pretty much the perfect sci-fi? as moving as it gets, and very concerned with real ideas and themes that many films (including, for better or worse, the other matrix flicks) somewhat gloss over. and those setpieces never get old man
