Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood 2019
difficult to feel much passion one way or the other for this one. it's mildly funny at times and engaging at others, but like, this plays so far against tarantino's regular talents (compelling characters acting out over the top scenarios with each other as we grow to be enchanted with them individually) and what he should have been doing all along (leaner exploitation films that would have garnered less clout but more genuine interest). it's a mess, and it isn't…

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018
not sure how much i can really refer to this as a missed opportunity, so much as i just hate hate HATE how much this caters to kids. obviously that would make sense, it's a movie for kids, i probably would have loved it in those days, but man the structure, dialogue, and pacing entirely shoot down any meaningful way i could love this.

Et Resurrectus Est 1994
i think this is generally where i might stop with elder; i'm big on avant-garde and maximalism, but giga-maximalist avant-garde is just a bit too much for me to handle for extended periods of time. and non-narrative doesn't usually lend itself well to two hour runtimes like this. props for him kinda fusing the notion of "abstract avant-garde" and "academic avant-garde" into one here though. nice dante fanfic bits. but yeah not into this nearly as much as his best work.
