Letterboxd — Your life in film

kind of the most insane outsider art movie ive seen in a long time but also not quite as sincere or batshit as i was hoping for. lot of classic lines in this one though that's for sure, and the opening titles are very cool :)

so weird - i like high concept stuff, tim hecker, a good chunk of the visuals, and the central idea (tourist yuppies exploit third world country in more and more extreme ways) but this is just the most like a24ified execution of all of that. not even boring or cringe or anything like that, i have no malice with this! just kind of a nothing movie less than the sum of its parts.

unfortunately just don't think bene is really for me - his organized chaos is offputting in a very distinct way that just never really grabs me from a narrative or aesthetic perspective. still some cool shots in this!

unfortunately nowhere near the film i thought it was gonna be. i like serra most of the time, but felt as though this sort of project was totally unfit for him - feel that he tends to work well in the abstract or using history as a distancing effect, not whatever was going on here. it does look gorgeous though, one of the best lookin flicks of last year for sure.
