Revisited this last night. It occurs to me even moreso now how everything after Veld drags on. This time I noticed that Veld is effectively a third act, ending with the photo that started the film, offering a nice little button of an ending. But it keeps going.
Except this time I also enjoyed the film's final act more. The realization Diana was wrong and Steve's final choice worked for me this time. And even though I find the Ares fight mostly lacking, Diana's admission that belief in love keeps her going felt more powerful to me this time. I suppose I wish all of that could have been compressed somehow.
No man's land sequence still fills me with joy, though. I think this film may be more rewatchable over the years than I had assumed in theaters.
