    While this narratively brings nothing new, there’s still a lot of good here. Particularly of note is strong central performance and the film’s use a gentler more folklorish tone than its similar predecessors. A shame then that it doesn’t quite come together; the last quarter feeling rushed with some muddy thematics and a few instances of narrative coincidence leaving the implications of the films title a little unexplored.

    For two days this film has kept popping back into my head. A small amount of grumpy follows…

    The biggest stretch, the moment the movie completely lost me and evaporated the small amount of goodwill McKenna Grace had earned it, wasn’t that everyone had just stopped believing in ghosts despite the previous events in New York (that’s already in Ghostbusters 2) or almost everything beyond Paul Rudd’s character entering Walmart. It wasn’t even that the easy to access old town…

    This is, despite an opening akin to a slasher, more an action, adventure, sly comedy movie than the horror it’s sometimes sold as. It really is Keach’s show. Mercifully, he’s on form. Bonus star for the startled Kangaroo. Half a star deducted for Curtis not being in this much.
