One of my favorite movies of all time. In my top ten depending on what day you ask me. I can't even use enough adjectives to describe just how much I love this movie and what it means to me. Moore's performance in my opinion is iconic. I've seen many others play drunk, but none as endearing as Moore's Arthur. Gielgud's Oscar winning performance will always put this movie on cinephiles radar, but there is so much more to this…
The first Academy award winning best picture, is a stunningly beautiful film with an incredible soundtrack of music. The progenitor of the epic war movie. The battle scenes are done of the scenes ever shot, still to this day. It is an incredible, remarkable accomplishment that they made a movie look this great in 1927. However it is a long movie and it is a silent film. This makes it a difficult watch for many. It probably could have been trimmed down, but still it is a great film, one of, if not the best of the early best picture winners.
If dolls didn't creep you out before watching this, they will after. My grandmother collects porcelain dolls and they creep me out, so this movie just solidifies that for me. Nothing surprising at all here, pretty much exactly what you think or expect to happen is what happens. Effects are good, but most of it is very much low budget B horror film. No where near as good as Gordon's previous films. But entertaining enough, and should be watched by any horror fan.
Fantastic, loved it, Joon-ho nails this one, perfect mixture of suspense, terror and comedy. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is how much of the movie was telegraphed. But still a great ride.
This has to be the best year for Oscar nominated best picture.
Best picture nom order.
1. Marriage Story
2. The Irishman
3. Once Upon A Time in Hollywood
4. Little Women
5. JoJo Rabbit
7. Ford vs Ferrari
4-6 are interchangeable.
Wow, even better than I remembered. So utterly brutal, just like Scene From a Marriage. Liv and Ingrid toe to toe in an epic battle of out of this world acting skills. Watch something like Cries and Whispers and see how Liv is cruel and seductive, then to Autumn Sonata where she spends so much of it meek and passive. Watch Gaslight to see Ingrid vulnerable to this, where she is cold and callus. Just two utterly outstanding performances.
