So, I do still enjoy parts of this film, the parts that remind me of Homecoming. As a Curb fan, I love the addition of JB Smooth, albeit briefly.
It's just funny, I am not a comic reader, so I really didn't know anything about Mysterio, but it was obvious to me he wasn't to be trusted right away, so the betrayal was so blatantly obvious.
And what is really terrible, at this point the movie is laced with plot holes. Seriously Mysterio was able to figure out that Peter would give up E.D.I.T.H to him. Then the biggest one of all, the big ultimate plan to eliminate all other superheroes so only he and his E.D.I.T.H system would be left to fight, like that would be enough in the event something really happened. Just doesn't seem well thought out, other than the notion that his just mentally unstable. I also think that Gyllenhaal pretty muched phoned in his performance, he is capable of so much better.
I love Jackson as Fury, so that helps tremendously.
In my previous review I said worst MCU film since Iron Man 3, I think I stand by that, It is very disappointing. I know coming right after End Game hurts, but just compared to Homecoming it is a step back. I do still love all the Peter Parker and his friends scenes, but the action sequences are pretty, but lack punch and the Villain is as awful as the before mentioned Iron Man 3. I also feel that Spider-Man is less quippy here than he was in Civil War and Homecoming, that's a bad thing not a good thing. I'm not sure I dig Happy and May, but that's minor. I am really shocked by the mid credits scene, just not sure why they feel the need to release his secret identity while still in high school. And the post credits scene, seriously WTF?
I gave this 3.5 and a like. I think I will leave the 3.5 but drop the like, even though there are things I like, I just don't think I like what they are doing with Spider-Man in this one.
