Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) ★★★½

It's an interesting movie with a generous serving of industry bait and inside jokes which often exclude a large portion of the audience.

Firstly, it's impossible not to mention how all of the performances were great! Especially Naomi Watts she was outstanding as always, I loved the scene she's arguing with Mike as they are bowing on stage it was such an interesting scene.

The long-take thing kind of became distracting and anxiety inducing because I was always watching out for cuts or actors stuttering their lines rather than paying attention to the actual movie.

Some cuts were confusing too, I was thinking wait how did they get changed so fast? oh time passed between this scene and the last but they just used a smooth transition to keep the one take thing... cool...

Mike's character is fascinating to begin with and represents a harsher side of industry that subsides human feeling for artistic integrity and performance. He became a bit wanky and unbearable as it progressed and not in the way it intended, just became too much and didn't amount to anything special. He slept with Sam yeh but who actually cares

Emma Stone could've been kept too she kind of reminds me of an iguana.

The ending part where he performs that scene for the last time (with a real gun) didn't really hit like it could have because we already seen that scene play out a couple of times before so it just felt lack-luster, also, we already knew the gun was going to be traded for a real one so it's not that shocking.

Overall, I enjoyed it but I found alot of it irritating. I love alot of the actors like Naomi and Michael and they really showed out in their performances. I liked some of the depictions of psychotic greed and how it was also a double representation of theatre art vs new media and superhero movie franchise dominating cinema.

"A man becomes a critic when he cannot be an artist"

Well, maybe...  but I think I'm both.

I guess I was entertained.

Ask birdman who the 3.5 star b*tch is!
