four years—give or take—can change quite a bit for a person it seems. my juvenile initial reaction aside, nearly everything about this film is effortlessly gorgeous and handled with fastidious care. it’s fully realized, and formally ambitious with a touch of old hollywood magic, yet PTA’s sensibilities feel so reined in. pushing past its technicalities and my surface level observations, there’s still so much to dissect. am i late to the party or what?
