idris’s review published on Letterboxd:
there is something to be said about the women in this film - there aren't any. they are voiceless, faceless, docile figures, all white noise and secondary. the cast is balanced: two men, two women. only one of those women gets a speaking role. the other, kyoko, a japanese maid, is peak fetishism. she is obedient and unassuming. despite both her and ava being artificial intelligence, kyoko is the one who is controlled. and ava is the one who is liberated.
this isn't a revenge film. there is no redemption, no justice. it is yet another factory hollywood piece with pseudo-social narrative and dudes fucking robots. i should've rewatched her.
