    The Northman

    ★★★½

This was filmed about half an hour’s drive from where I live and I didn’t recognise it until somebody pointed it out to me. Gangs of New York

    ★★★½

As a kid, Gangs of New York was my introduction to the man who now flip flops between being my favourite or second favourite director depending on my mood. Having gone through much of Scorsese’s work since, I’m not quite as enamoured with my first big boy movie as I was then, but even now I think it has a lot of unique strengths that help it stand it apart from the rest of his filmography.

    Something Gangs of New…
