“You fuckin' hippies came up here to smoke dope on a dark road, huh?”
Rarely do I watch a film that actually leaves me slack-jawed near the end. Entertained? Sure, often enough. But, completely astonished and bewildered beyond belief? Rarely. That’s how Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood left me feeling. Tarantino has been one of my favorite directors since I saw Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 and Inglourious Basterds.
There’s nothing better than watching a bunch of nazis get cooked to a crisp or skinned like a freshly shot buck. Quentin Tarantino delivers on that and more, even in this film. Leonardo DiCaprio provides yet another Oscar-worthy performance akin to Titanic, The Revenant and so many others. Brad Pitt is a badass as always, wrapping this film up in one of the greatest sequences I’ve ever seen. Instant classic & an instant favorite, Quentin Tarantino defines exactly what I love so much about cinema.
I can’t recommend this film enough. It’s one of my favorites of all time and the cast is absolutely stacked. Even Cliff Booth’s dog is a shining star and he’s so adorable. Masterpiece.
