The Crow is a true gothic film with wonderful dark imagery, a heart-breaking love story and Brandon Lee being awesome as the titular character. Killer soundtrack and a stunning central theme running throughout out. Cult status achieved, and one of my favourite films.

TÁR is an engrossing and fascinating character study, a creation of a person that feels so real, entrenched in a meticulously crafted story, that is paced extremely well, focused, and displays very tight direction. Cate Blanchett is truly majestic in this role, an actor that is consistently at the top of her game, and gives an incredibly committed performance. A wonderful film.

Dementia 13 is a nice psychological horror, an eerie gothic atmosphere, with a really creepy score, and some haunting visuals. I imagine the kills in this film were considered quite brutal at the time, and Francis Ford Coppola did a decent job directing this film with some unique shots.

The Wrath of Becky is a decent follow up to Becky from 2020. A bloodstained revenge thriller with a similar tone, and very brisk pacing. Lulu Wilson does a great job, and is really likeable, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing another sequel, as the story teases towards.

I am baffled as to why an Oscar nomination has eluded Tom Hanks for his portrayal of Captain Phillips.

This does not sit well with me. Hanks was remarkable.

On a technical level, The Power of the Dog is outstanding, masterclass of acting from all involved, gorgeous cinematography and camerawork. A haunting score from Jonny Greenwood, and smart direction from Jane Campion. However, it's a shame the story doesn't quite follow suit. It's far from dull, and I liked it a lot, but I just wanted more from it.
