    Dazed and Confused

    Another prerequisite!

This film is a vibe. You come in. Get high. Feel it. And drive off into the sunset.

The strength of this movie is its authenticity. It authentically feels like a camera just followed a bunch of high schoolers hanging around in the 70s. Every single detail contributes to this cinema verite style: the fleshed out characters and the way they speak, the way they dress, the hair they have, the cars they drive, the music they listen to,…

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

I have so much to write so buckle up. The size of my review meets the size of this film.

Y’all remember how big this movie was? Or was it just 12 year old me? It is big though. In every sense of the word. The massive sets, the apocalyptic battles, the expansive cast list, and the massive scope of the story... the budget too probably. Yeah, it had all the opportunity and goodwill to become the greatest third installment…

I loved this movie as a young boy. I was enamored with the imagery and sounds and music and action. I dressed up as V for two Halloween’s straight. I still have my mask. I was ready for the revolution but I had no true grasp of what the chancellor did to gain power.

This movie was instrumental for my political puberty. I used to watch it over and over and dream about leading a revolution. I used to cry in the end. Now I cry throughout.

It was also important in injecting non-stereotypical LGBT characters into my conscious.

    Quantum of Solace

This movie is forgettable at best. No memorable bad guy. No memorable girl. No memorable car or gadget or locations or supporting characters, or title sequence. The worst precredits sequence. No memorable stunts or kills (despite there being so many of them).

Seems like a long way to go to just get Bond where the character needed to be.

The best part of this movie is it’s reference to a much superior movie. I also like the song and Craig’s development of his character.

Still, in the moment, it manages to be fun.

The Man with the Golden Gun

This film is careless and fun! From the opening scene it’s bang bang and nothing but a good time. The script is a completely confusing but you don’t care cause you’re caught up in everything. It’s a more overtly sexual and athletic kung fu inspired movie with a catchy theme that fits the mood.

The women are absolutely gorgeous. I think this film has the prettiest women so far. Britt Ekland is a muse.

The villain is way cool. His…

  • Scream

The strength of this movie comes from how new and groundbreaking it feels even 20+ years after its release. The scares still frighten. The twists still blindside. The jokes still make you laugh. And the commentary still applies. If you haven’t seen this, get on it quick without looking anything up.

It seems to me like most modern horror films are still under the shadow of both the classics and this film.

    I miss video stores.

It’s got a very tight script and an experienced and comfortable director.
