I found the fast-paced, always on the move-style of Michael Mann to be the redeeming aspect wherever the writing fell through. Even if the characters come to conclusions too easily, there’s a sense that they know where they’re going and they’re gonna get there.

I think Hemsworth was miscast as Hathaway. What if it had been Adrian Brody, or Shia LaBeouf? Badass

“You know what the best kind of plan is? No plan at all...”

This one hits pretty hard on the first time through. Maybe that’s because the first half feels like a slightly-dark dramedy at most (to me it was just fun to watch), then gets flipped on its head when the maid returns. Fuck, from that point on there were so many uncomfortable moments. Luring the video over the Kim family as leverage, the Parks not being able to…

Probably 20 minutes too long but Flanagan really captured the essence of the book and put it on screen. The stage for the climax was perfectly set, they didn’t spend too much time in The Overlook. It was a sequel to Kubrick’s masterpiece, yet still a slight re-imagining of the Torrence origins. Kid acting was perfect and made you connect with them—the child actors seemed hand picked almost. The Crow and her wrecking crew do love the most innocent ones, though. That scene with Jacob Tremblay...... I can go the rest of my life without seeing that poor boy being picked at like roadkill.
