this viewing was necessary for me to see Peter as the true central character of the plot, even as toni collete is the central character emotionally.
i can’t talk about this movie because i don’t think i’d be able to stop, at least there’s no way for me to express what i want in a draft.
mechanically though— i still think this is 2 different movies: the family drama & the king plot. the king plot is either a way to make this movie commercially viable or is the only way the writer thought to make the emotional physical, either way i resent it a little. the movie could have been mostly the same aside from certain aspects towards the end & worked as a physical means of expressing grief and family and obligation and love and hate etc. but also depression and mania and hopelessness. and then it easily would’ve been one of my favorite movies, eternally.
i missed a lot of the details the first time around, really just connecting to the complete depiction of despair ha ha. but i loved how (purposefully) the teacher was talking about the character’s “fatal flaw” as we see Peter only focusing on this girl’s ass. love foreshadowing with a sense of humor.
