pretending to be a film critic is my only personality trait
whilst i’ve connected with some gus van sant films on a much higher level than some of his others, the fact everything he directs has great cinematography ALWAYS makes watching his films an experience regardless.
(side note: i love how this is yet another van sant movie with elliott smith in the soundtrack - his songs always fit perfectly).
so… i finally rewatched this after 2.5 years.
i’ve always voiced a distaste for this movie. in fact, i am still against how unnecessary the racial comments ladybird makes towards miguel (at his expense) are, since it felt like a cheap plot device to reflect her inflated ego and lack of awareness - which was already done with other things. however, i admit i could appreciate a bit more about this movie now that i’ve revisited it - given the stunning cinematography…
