A fascinating experience in 3D just from a historical point of view; cool to see how much of the Avatar-era cinematic language of 3D was already in place during the initial golden age. The movie is very confident in its use of the format – the sets full of wax statues are clearly built for depth, and action is often oriented towards the camera in some way. Even the obligatory scene that annoys you by throwing shit at your face shows up!
It's not all House of Wax has going for it either, with its beautiful colors & lightning. Remember when horror movies used to look like movies instead of featureless gray sludge? The plot may be a little hokey, but there's a nicely creepy atmosphere to it regardless, and Vincent Price is good. Fun movie.
