Once again, Peter Hyams proves himself to be Hollywood’s leading specialist at remixing Alien, taking all the shadowy, slime-drenched creature feature parts he couldn’t fit into Outland and transplanting them into 1990s Chicago. Pretty much exactly what you think it’s going to be, but still the best possible version of it.
It's frustrating to think that, years from now, people will probably be describing this movie to each other with the preface "it's like Lady Bird with America Ferrera". To be fair, though, there are a lot of similarities between this and Gerwig's film, but it'd be a mistake to think that this doesn't stand out on its own.
