Kevin Foote’s review published on Letterboxd:
I'm a huge Kubrick fan, and bought the Criterion Bluray of this film having never seen it before. I look upon this film and admire its masterful execution and aesthetic, but just don't love it the same way I love other Kubrick films. The main character is just too unlikable for me. Even when he's trying to be heroic by rescuing a man from a burning building, its only because of the potential to gain favor from saving a high ranking officer. And it's not even a film about a good natured individual that goes bad, Barry's pretty selfish from the get-go, and only gets worse throughout the film. Really the only surprisingly likable character is his step son.
