A cursory knowledge of Ron & Russell's obsessions (grand romantic gestures, intentional artifice, socially accepted hallucinations, comical murder) helps only a little in deciphering this mountain of fucking nonsense, a stack of needles with a single straw of hay at the bottom.
It can be sweeping and painterly and vivid, but it's mostly the kind of incoherent epic found in the amassed diaries of a high school janitor.
